The arts have been a constant source of joy, stimulation and nourishment throughout my life. I studied Art History, completing my degree at Canterbury University, Christchurch. Followed by travel and adventures overseas, gaining an ESOL Teaching qualification, and living in various cities, before returning to the coast and becoming a rural dweller on a Pihama dairy farm.
Creative strands weave within my family, workplaces, perspectives and choice of learning experiences. I am actively involved in our local arts scene as an organiser, advocate, educator, practitioner and passionate arts appreciator. I have facilitated the Arts Academy Program at Ōpunakē High School, working with youth to pursue their creative passions and to enliven our local coastal community through vibrant volunteer projects. For the past decade I have also been involved in the planning, organisation and staging of the Taranaki National Art Awards, held annually in Ōpunakē. I became chairperson of the committee four years ago and I value the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team of community volunteers. We all share a passion and enthusiasm for the arts, culture and creativity in Taranaki and visibly promoting their intrinsic value to our social, cultural and environmental wellbeing.
I am enjoying being part of the awesome Creative Taranaki team! Continuing to create connections, build and maintain strong relationships and discovering the breadth and depth of our creative community network. Front of mind is the provision of opportunities for individuals and organisations to share their voice and vision around what is needed to grow capability, capacity and connectivity and provide support and resources to enable the creative economy to prosper and thrive.
